Used Renault Mégane for Sale – Infinitely Fun!

With used Renault Mégane for sale in 3 and 5 door hatchback, saloon, coupé and convertible variants, these immensely popular cars are perfect for families, urban singletons and vehicle owners who need just that little bit of extra luggage space! Originally launched in 1995 as the official successor to the much-lauded Renault 19, the Mégane is currently in its 4th generation and was the first car in its class to be awarded a 5-star EuroNCAP safety rating in 2003. The beautiful hatch was, however, discontinued in South Africa in 2019. Due to the popularity of the design styles and the mechanical longevity of the used Renault Mégane for sale at Group1, we often have a wide variety of different generations available. These include all of the following used Mégane models:

4th Generation Renault Mégane
2016 – 2019

Launched to great fanfare in late 2015 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the 4th generation Renault Mégane immediately became a top seller for the company once sales started in July 2016. The latest generation of Mégane takes its design inspiration from the current Renault “design language”, which has also played a large part in the current looks of the latest Renault Clio and Renault Captur sold in South Africa. This version of the Mégane yet again is a break from previous Mégane designs and is both larger and has a lower silhouette than previous Mégane generations.

The latest Renault Mégane Model Variants and Trim Levels include:

    The Megane 84KW Dynamique
    The Megane 97KW Turbo GT-Line
The Megane 97KW Turbo EDC GT-Line
The Megane 151KW Turbo EDC GT

Did You Know? The Mégane Sedan has not been launched in South Africa, but it closely resembles the current Renault Talisman (which is also not available in S.A). It is however destined for African shores, so there is a good chance that we’ll see it soon. There is also the GT-Line and GT Turbo versions of the 4th generation Mégane, all of which are available from Group1 Renault.

3rd Generation Renault Mégane
2008 – 2016

The third generation Mégane was officially launched in 2008 with a completely new design that was even sportier in looks and style than the previous generation. Although not available in South Africa, there were additional 3rd generation Mégane variants launched in Europe, these included a five-door estate version in 2009 named the Mégane Sport Tourer. This was followed by a Mégane Coupé Cabriolet in June 2010. This was the same year that also saw the introduction of a powerful 1.4L – a Renault-developed turbocharged engine.

The first facelift of this generation of Mégane was introduced in 2012, with a second facelift version being offered in 2014. This not only kept the look and feel of the Mégane current but the 2014 facelift variant is still the most requested version of 3rd generation of Mégane.

Did You Know? This was the first generation of Mégane that was not offered with an automatic transmission. It was instead manufactured with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) option, which also proved to be popular amongst drivers across the globe.

2nd Generation Renault Mégane
2002 – 2009

The launch of the 2nd generation of Mégane was a complete break from the previous design style, a trait that has continued for every subsequent launch of Mégane generation redesign. In its first full year on sale, it was voted European Car of the Year (2003) and was also awarded a prestigious five star safety rating in the EuroNCAP crash tests, It was, in fact, the very first small family car to be given this honour!

But safety was not the only thing that this generation of Mégane became known for, as it was also used as a showcase for many new Renault developed technologies such as a keyless ignition system. It was also the first car to offer a panoramic glass sunroof, something that has now become fairly familiar in the luxury family vehicle market. Facelift versions of the 2nd generation Mégane were introduced in 2006, which saw new interior trims, spec level changes and a new look nose offered.

Did You Know? In its first full year of sales (2003), the 2nd generation Mégane not only became one of the best selling cars in France with sales of over 198,000, but it also peaked in the top 5 most popular cars in the United Kingdom charts. These impressive sales continued all of the ways into 2007. During this time the Mégane also made its name as an exceptionally reliable car and scored very favourably in the German ADAC breakdown statistics where it outperformed rivals such as the Honda Civic, Opel Astra, Ford Focus, BMW 1 Series, and even the Audi A3.

1st Generation Renault Mégane
1995 – 2002

Launched in 1995 and available for sale in certain countries (most of which were in South America), the 1st generation Mégane has become a cult classic. The Mégane was not only a replacement for the popular Renault 19, but was in fact very close in looks and style to its predecessor.

Notable features introduced in the 1st generation Mégane included a pillar mounted seat belt for the middle rear occupant, seat belt pretensioners and load limiters, driver’s airbag and even passenger airbags in models manufactured after 1996. All of these features might come as standard today, but at the time these were features that were very seldom found in any of Renault’s competitor’s cars of the same vehicle class. The only facelift to this generation of Mégane took place in 1999

Did You Know? Renault Sport used the Mégane as the basis of their 1990’s rally car, which was called the Clio Williams Maxi and represented Renault in the Formula 2 Kit Car Category. This was followed by an even more powerful version of the F2 Mégane Rally Car in 1996 and was driven by some of the times most experienced drivers. This included rally greats such as Philippe Bugalski, Jean Ragnotti and Serge Jordan.
